SCINE sets up a green civic space in Makindye division for young people to engage on issues affecting their communities
With support from Network for Active Citizens, we were able to set up a green civic space in Makindye division. The space creates a platform where young people can meet to discuss, share ideas, use the internet provided by SCINE to look for opportunities online, learn from each other but above all learn how to utilize the small spaces they have in their communities homes, to engage in urban farming. With urban farming, the young people won't lack vegetables to eat but can as well sell some of the vegetables in the communities at a fair price and earn from it.
In Vulnerable communities like rural and slum communities the bigger percentage of people living in there are informals but always programs brought in to support these communities targets mainly those in formal sectors hence creating little or no impact therefore localising community programs is the better option for sustainability. The green civic spaces will also be used as venues for the community youth parliaments that brings together young people and key stakeholders to discuss climate issues affecting them in the community.
