Spreading the gospel of climate smart agriculture on World environment day 2023
World Environment Day is celebrated on 5th June of every year to raise awareness and encourage action for the protection of our planet. In Uganda one of the major challenges to the environment sighted out is plastic pollution. As Sustainable Community Initiative for Empowerment - SCINE we celebrated the day with the children at Little vines primary school in Makindye Division Kampala where we introduced them to climate smart agriculture where we use plastic waste as planters and this is one of the viable options to plastic pollution.
We conducted a hands on training which included, how to set up a nursery bed, transplanting, taking care of the garden, advantages of practicing urban farming among others. And Little vines green club was formed to be champions of change at the school and in the community where they come from. This was made possible with support from Seed Programs International under the project #GROWCITY .
